  2. Which oil?

Champi — a warm oil head massage — is one of the oldest hair rituals in South Asia. Done right, it strengthens roots and relaxes you before sleep.

Step by step

  1. 1

Warm 2 teaspoons of oil by standing the bottle in hot water.

  2. 2

Part your hair into sections and apply oil to the scalp, not just the lengths.

  3. 3

Massage with your fingertips in small circles for 5–10 minutes.

  4. 4

Leave it for at least an hour — overnight is best.

  5. 5

Wash with a herbal shampoo; you may need two rounds.

💡 Tip

Don't overdo it: 2–3 times a week is plenty. Oiling every day can clog the scalp.

Which oil?

  • Hair fall: Bhringraj or onion oil.

  • Dry, frizzy hair: virgin coconut oil.

  • Dandruff: add a few drops of kalojira oil to coconut oil.
